The ground is natural white wool, with stripes of blue and red woven in the old 18th century manner. The blue is set with a darker shade at the edges and a lighter blue through the center. The red is worked with narrow red lines, a thin white on either side, and a slightly wider red stripe in the middle. These small tricks of color allow the eye to see a broader, deeper stripe, while
